The act was lifted with the Magnuson Act in 1943. In World War II, innocent Japanese Americans suffered from internment camps. The Chinese fought as allies alongside Americans during World War II. This collaboration was the motivating factor for the act to be lifted. It was ridiculous to still have the Chinese differentiated from the Americans after being allies. This was the first time that foreign born Asians were granted the right to U.S. citizenship.
