After a while, the Chinese started getting ill treatment from the Americans. There were racist slogans as "Chinese must go!" the anti Chinese movement's goal was to drive the Chinese out of the country. There was a lot of hate for the Chinese as the angry Europeans who called them "yellow peril" and called them cheap labor, accusing them of gambling and running drugs. There were many anti Chinese riots that occurred across California ad other parts of the country. The biggest incident was the Los Angeles race riot in 1871, when angry mobs burned down a Chinatown and hung 15 Chinese men.
